For the past couple of years, members old and young of the South Kingstown Veterans Firefighter’s association have been putting fire department flags on gravestones of the departed members. Last year when we were doing this, Brian Ballou asked the question where Bud Love is buried. After he found out that he was buried in Worcester, Massachusetts, Brian said let’s go to Worcester! Lieutenant Byron Love made the ultimate sacrifice on April 29, 1969 and is buried in Worcester Memorial Park cemetery in Paxton Massachusetts.
This trip is long overdue. The South Kingstown Veteran Firefighter’s Association in conjunction with the Peace Dale Fire Department will be traveling to Worcester on Saturday, September 27. We will gather and depart the Peace Dale FD at 9 o’clock. We anticipate arriving in Worcester for a short service at 11 o’clock where we will lay flags, flowers, and say a short prayer for Lt. Love.
We are encouraging all members of the Union Fire District / Peace Dale Fire / South Kingstown Veteran Firefighters Association, family, and friends to join us in this long overdue tribute. The Association is requesting Class A uniforms for South Kingstown UFD members, and the red Aberdeen T-shirt and khaki color pants for SKVFA members. There will be transportation available, or we will carpool to reduce the number of vehicles. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Hope to see you there!
